modified and healed using the twelve (12) steps giving inner peace.

Beyond Abuse

12 Step Program

Beyond Abuse (BA) is a twelve (12) step support group for men and women whose life experiences include

one or many forms of abuse. This may mean: Emotional, Sexual (overt, covert) ,  Physical.  (0vert, covert)

BA utilizes the keys of AA steps to go BEYOND Abuse.

OVERT / COVERT

There are two types of abuse
 overt and covert.

Covert abuse includes hearing profanity, watching someone being abused  beaten or touched), movies, sexual teasing

by a parent, being called names and you take it personally (sometimes called bullying), sexual harassment, etc.

Overt abuse includes sexual abuse, touching inappropriately, or hitting or beating, or anything that was done directly to you, either as a child or adult.

This 12 Step support group is intended to provide a safe place where we can share our experiences, strengths and hopes in

overcoming the effects of our overt or covert abuse in the past.

Support for :

Sexual Abuse and or Incest

Emotional Abuse the most prevalent.

Physical overt results or covert effects

Professional / Therapist Assistance

The twelve step program is not intended to replace the professional.  It is recommended that a therapist, social worker or

clergyperson trained in the area of abuse also assist you. However, group facilitators can assist in directing treatment options.

The 12 step program is only a beginning and in addition to other methods of support systems/treatment, which can include

reading material, workbooks and workshops.

The opinions expressed at the meetings are strictly those of the individuals who give them.  The things you will hear are given and spoken

in complete confidence and should be treated as very confidential.  If you try to absorb what you hear in the 12 steps,

you are bound to gain a better understanding of the way to handle your challenges in life. Talk to other participants, share with honesty,

let there be no gossip or criticism for one another, but only love, understanding and fellowship.

It is not necessary to live with the destruction that abuse has caused.  BA will help diminish the negative effects, when practiced.

We look forward to seeing you at the meetings.

For more information, please call Connie at

519 -325-0723 .   Thank you.

                                         SERENITY PRAYER

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting the hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this world as it is,

Not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make all things right

If I surrender to His will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life and

Supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

3 Hour Seminar

Registration a half hour before seminar.

Seminar:  3 hours  (day or evening time frame to be arranged)

Empower yourself to overcome challenges, attain goals and have inner peace. Teen’s challenges often reek havoc. The common response is Suicide, Bullying, Relationship deterioration, Self-Abuse, Drugs, Alcohol, Stealing, Lying Or trying to be PERFECT, over spending or over-exercising. The cause of this may be a loss…. feeling un-heard, un-loved. Perhaps, parents are divorced, or suffering from the death of a loved one or a physical impairment of self or a loved one. How can you (a teen) be happy in life? What is life for anyway? How can I go on? Why bother to participate in the holidays and celebrations? Recovery is possible. Happiness is available by learning the correct series of choices one  must choose to acquire long term change. These changes allow you (the teen) freedom to be (express) who you really are!

Art of Living presents:  Everything Is Food!

Words of Wisdom From A Small Child

Author and Illustrator:  Connie-Jean Latam

Connie-Jean Latam presently resides in Kingsville, Ontario, where she is the President and owner of “Art of Living Resource Centre” Inc.  She is a Doctor of Natural Medicine, accredited by the American Naturopathic Association; a Certified Addictions, Trauma and Loss Counsellor; a Certified Hypnotherapist; and an Energy Medicine Practitioner and Teacher .  Of her many accomplishments, Connie’s most cherished is that of the proud Mother of the late Michael Latam, who died in a private airplane crash in 1999 at the age of 26.  It was evident very early on that Michael was an extraordinarily wise child, who later became a spiritual leader and guiding mentor for many.   Michael, clearly a young man with vision, was constantly giving wise messages.   Thus, Connie wrote this book: “Everything Is Food! Words of Wisdom From A Small Child” ;  which Connie calls: “The book that’s changing Humankind!” Because, this  true story of a delightful three year old,  Michael,  offers a simple solution to understanding how to “Let go to LIFE”  acquiring inner peace and love for oneself.  Once this spiritual concept is understood, the message/solution can be shared with everyone. Thus, this is truly “The Book that’s changing Humankind!”

After Connie-Jean Latam lost her only child, she discovered that her son had given her a blessed gift – that of learning to “LET GO TO LIFE”. Connie felt encouraged to embark on a love-filled, positive journey of personal discovery and self-reliance.  She found that in listening to her child, and ultimately all children, they are far wiser than often given credit. Connie realised that once you grasp and take hold of the lessons of innocence and non-judgement as seen through the eyes of a child, you will learn the benefits of an entirely new way of thinking .  This important offering is a book for all ages.

Yes, this story: Everything Is Food! has a message for everyone. If we are willing to observe LIFE from the perspective of seeing it through the discovering eyes, loving heart and wisdom of a little child, the world would be a happier and better place for all.  Connie invites and encourages you to please search inside yourself for the loving child, and discover the world again – for the first time!  Remember:  Everything Is Food…. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

Everything Is Food!   was  shown at the “Book Expo” in Toronto 2008.  It is available under the “spiritual and children’s section” and “local authors” at Indigo’s in Tecumseh , Ont.,. where Connie will be hosting a  book signing on  Sunday, October 4th, 2009. from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  and on Monday, October 5th, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  It is also at the Essex Train Station, in Essex, Ont.;  in Leamington, Ont. and at the Leamington Art Gallery. Connie’s recent “Leamington Marina” book signing, along with other authors, on July 4th and 5h , 2009 was a heart warming success  “Angelic Voices Bookstore” will be hosting Connie for a book signing this Fall in Leamington.

Distribution of the book is moving fast to many other locations.  It is also available using Paypal on the “Art Of Living” website:  www.artoflivingresoucecentre.com. Connie-Jean Latam is a Theraplay®,  Play and Art therapist.  One of her play treatments has recently been accepted by another Local Author and Play Therapist,  Liana Lowenstein, for publication in her upcoming book: “Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents, and Families: Practitioners Share Their Most Effective Techniques.”

Connie is now in the process of developing a companion book for: “ Everything Is Food!”  that will contain art and play therapy exercises to better understand and put in to practice the  message of  “LETTING GO  TO  LIFE!”  in a simple and practical way.

Connie-Jean Latam was former  president and owner of Rencor Consultants Inc. - the Corporate trainer of  micro computers and connectivity to mainframes - for over 10 years.  During that time Connie-Jean and her staff created training manuals within the corporate guidelines of the client; and then taught “hands-on” classes to the members. Examples of these high-profile corporations were:  Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Shell Oil, IBM, and many others.

Connie has also taught at St. Clair College in Business Administration to re-train many adult students.

Connie-Jean Latam, a sexual abuse survivor, appeared in a film created by The Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) in 1992 which was distributed throughout Canada.  The theme of the film was: “The Affects And After-Effects Of Sexual Abuse”.

Over the years, Connie has given many presentations at women’s clubs, rotary clubs, etc.; and on behalf of a project she initiated in the early 90’s called: “Scared Silent”– a proposed residential recovery centre for emotional, physical and sexual abuse survivors.  which was recognized and was to be sponsored by a local community serving facility. Unfortunately, the government funding was substantially cut to all providers, and the project failed to carry through.   Connie continues tirelessly to support those impacted by abuse in any way she can!
